Project Description

Sinus & Airway Investigation

apryle-investigateWe are equipped with modern tools and progressive skills to investigate and treat sinus and airway disease, in a minimally invasive manner in most cases.  This will minimize a horse’s recovery time, improve their appearance cosmetically following surgery, and allow you to return to the saddle more quickly than treatment with more invasive methods.  A variety of sinus and airway diseases may also be involved with dental problems, requiring further investigation by an equine veterinary dentist like Dr. Horbal.

Symptoms that may be related to sinus and airway disease in horses include:

  • Nasal Discharge from One or Both Nostrils
  • Bad Breath

  • Swelling or Distortion of the Head
  • Strange Noises Made During Exercise
  • Coughing

We are also prepared to provide investigation of:

  • Sinusitis, Sinus Tumors, and Sinus Cysts
  • Epistaxis (Nosebleeds)
  • Difficulty Breathing During Exercise or Excessive Noise when Exercising
  • Facial Swellings

  • Facial or Jaw Trauma

Investigation and treatment of these problems require the experience of an equine veterinary dentist, and may involve:

  • Investigation of the Sinuses and Teeth with X-Rays or CT Scan

  • Endoscopy of the Airways if Sinus Disease is Suspected

  • Keyhole Endoscopic Surgery to Treat Sinusitis and Drainage Problems
